Governor Whitmer declares May as Mental Health Awareness Month in Michigan

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has declared May Mental Health Awareness Month in the state.

The proclamation, available in full on michigan.gov, states "mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being; it affects how we think, feel, and act; it also affects how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices."

The Governor also notes resources available from the state, including for workplace mental health and a suicide and crisis hotline that can be reached by dialling "988."

The Health & Wellness committee of the Wayne State University President's Commission on the Status of Women works to raise awareness of issues around mental health. During the month of May, they are hosting events and sharing tips and resources on social media. See the COSW website for more information.
