Become a Commissioner

It's easy to join the COSW! There are two ways to get involved.

1.  Apply to Become a Commissioner

The Commission is made up of 30 commissioners. We invite you to apply to be a commissioner by completing the application during the open call period. The call for commissioners goes out by late April and is distributed on the all-student and all-employee listservs, as well as social media. Contact the vice-chair with questions.

Commissioners must attend bi-monthly meetings, which are held on the third Wednesday of every other month from 12:00-1:00 p.m. All commissioners must serve on at least one of the standing committees. Committee chairs also attend the executive board meetings during alternating months.

Commissioners serve the campus and its community in positive, engaging ways while promoting gender equity and creating awareness around issues that impact women and other underrepresented and marginalized populations. Commissioners serve a two-year term on a variety of subcommittees with a focus on learning, discussion, and meaningful activities. General commissioner meetings are scheduled every other month, while the committees meet frequently to provide quality programming. We urge you to apply to join this innovative, creative, and dedicated group as we work to advance issues related to gender equity on campus and in the broader community. Applications are welcome from current students, alumni, staff, and faculty of Wayne State, representing all gender identities and expressions.
